Losing 3 Points Does Have Implications

Posted by Darryl Skender on February 23, 2011

When one first looks at the standings and sees the 3 points the Melfort Mustangs lost for playing Nick Angelo in 4 more games than he was supposed to, it doesn’t seem to be a big deal. The Mustangs still finish 2nd in the Bauer Conference and will still host their Conference semi-final against Humboldt on the same dates… so everything is status quo right? Not necessarily. Should Melfort win the Bauer Conference and play in the Credit Union Cup final, those 3 points could be very costly… that is if they play Kindersley. Melfort had home-ice advantage if they played the Klippers before but now that has changed. The Stangs now finish the regular season with 72 points which is 1 less than Kindersley. That means home-ice advantage in a Melfort-Kindersley final would go to the Klippers. However that is a long ways away and may never happen anyway. We’ll just have to wait and see if that boo boo costs them more than the $1800 fine.
